The TSX Venture and NEX Canadian Penny Stock Exchanges

A decade ago, if you wanted to invest in Canadian penny stocks, you had to have access to and knowledge of a great many small exchanges. Alberta, Vancouver, Montreal and other locations all had their own stock exchanges with small cap stocks available.

My very first penny stock wins were with companies listed on the Alberta Stock Exchange.

Soon after my first profits, Alberta and Vancouver merged their exchanges, then that new board merged again with all the other small exchanges in the country into the TSX Venture Exchange.

The TSX Venture Exchange provides emerging companies with access to capital, while offering investors a well-regulated market for making venture investments. TSX Venture listed issuers are active in mining, oil and gas, manufacturing, technology, financial services and other sectors.

The TSX Venture Exchange lists over 2500 companies, all active on two tiers: Tier 1 is for senior companies with the most significant resources. Tier 1 issuers have fewer filing requirements. Tier 2 is for early-stage companies. This is a rapidly growing segment of the venture market in all industry sectors. Most TSX Venture Exchange listed companies are Tier 2 companies

Companies which fail to meet the TSX Venture listing standards get dropped to the NEX board. NEX is a new and separate board of TSX Venture Exchange.

NEX is where you will find companies that have low levels of business activity or have ceased to carry on active business. These companies are visible here as potential takeover targets or investment opportunities.
